Diamond Bar DUI Checkpoint Nets Two Arrests

Two people were arrested at a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in Diamond Bar, authorities said Saturday morning.

The checkpoint was located at Diamond Bar Boulevard and Highland Valley Road and conducted between 6 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

One person was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and another person was arrested for felony identity theft and misdemeanor possession of drugs, the sheriff’s department said.

DUI Checkpoints are placed in areas based on crash statistics and frequency of DUI arrests. In 2018, the sheriff’s department investigated nearly 400 DUI collisions that killed 21 people and injured nearly 600 others, the LASD said.

“Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500,” the department said in a statement. “This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses not to mention possible jail time.”

The sheriff’s department also reminded drivers that prescription drugs, particularly those with driving or operating machinery warnings on the label, and marijuana, especially when used in combination with alcohol or other drugs, can impair a person’s ability to drive and result in a DUI.
