Second Suspect Arrested in North Long Beach Homicide

by Contributing Editor

A second suspect was in custody Monday in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man at a North Long Beach housing project, police said.

The shooting was reported about 9:45 p.m. Friday at the Carmelitos Housing Project in the 900 block of Via Wanda.

Jerrimiyah Davis of Long Beach suffered gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

On Saturday, police arrested Paul Booth, 58, of Long Beach, in the 5200 block of Orange Avenue. Booth had been seen fleeing the crime scene in a wheelchair, police alleged.

Booth was booked on suspicion of murder and being an ex-felon in possession of live ammunition, with bail set at $2 million.

On Sunday afternoon, detectives arrested Darral Frank, 56, of San Pedro and booked him on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact, according to police. He was being held on $1 million bail.

“Detectives believe (Frank) was aware of the shooting, and attempted to protect Paul Booth from arrest, trial or conviction by concealing evidence related to the shooting,” according to a Long Beach Police Department statement. “The rifle detectives believe was used in the murder was located concealed in a public place near where Frank was taken into custody.”

Homicide detectives believe Davis and Booth knew each other and that Booth confronted Davis in a common area of the housing project, resulting in the shooting, according to the LBPD.

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office some time this week, police said.
