A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Vermont Vista area of South Los Angeles and the driver of the vehicle that hit her was being sought Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred as the woman was in a marked crosswalk at 98th Street and South Vermont Avenue about 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol, which patrols parts of South Los Angeles. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
Surveillance video from the location showed the woman getting off a bus, then walking across the street in the marked crosswalk when a vehicle approaches from her left. She attempts to get out of the way, but was struck by the vehicle, whose driver fled the scene.
The suspect vehicle was described as a white Dodge Challenger or Charger, the CHP said.
The name of the victim was not disclosed.
