Man Charged With Trying to Rob Bank in Glendale

A man already on parole for robbery was charged Thursday with trying to hold up a bank in Glendale while claiming that he had a bomb.

Pablo Miguel Lopez, 28, of Sylmar, is set to be arraigned Friday at the Glendale courthouse on three counts of attempted second-degree robbery and one count of malicious informing of a false bomb, all felonies.

The criminal complaint includes allegations that he was convicted in 2016 of second-degree robbery.

Lopez allegedly walked into a Bank of America branch at 3812 San Fernando Road about 3:55 p.m. Tuesday while carrying a bag and then giving a teller a note demanding money. The note said he had a gun and a bomb, according to Glendale Police Department spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

“The Glendale Police Department was notified and quickly surrounded the bank,” Lightfoot said. “Lopez exited the bank without the bag or money and he was taken into custody without incident.”

Sheriff’s bomb squad personnel responded and examined the bag, which did not contained a bomb or gun, she said.

If convicted as charged, Lopez could face a potential state prison sentence of more than 17 years, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
