Authorities Wednesday sought public help to find a motorist involved in a street race in Mission Hills that resulted in the death of the other driver, who lost control and crashed into a parked vehicle.
Officers were sent to Devonshire Street and Woodman Avenue about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A man in his 30s died at the scene. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives. His female passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by paramedics.
According to police, the fatally injured motorist was driving a 1994 Mazda sedan north on Woodman Avenue “at a high rate of speed” when he crashed into a parked GMC Yukon SUV.
“A witness stated that the driver of the white Mazda was operating his vehicle recklessly at a high rate of speed and racing against a white sedan prior to the collision,” a police statement said. “The other white sedan involved in the race continued northbound on Woodman Avenue toward Devonshire Street.”
No description of the driver was available.
Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8033; or 877-LAPD-24-7.
