Felon Who Opened Fire on MoVal Family Sentenced to 15 Years

A convicted felon who shot into a car occupied by a Moreno Valley family because they were trying to get his license plate after a hit-and-run collision pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted murder and was immediately sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
Pierre Lamar Drew, 34, of Moreno Valley Drew had been awaiting trial at the Riverside Hall of Justice, but during a pretrial hearing before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Eric Keen, the prosecution and defense announced that a plea agreement had been reached.
Under the deal, the defendant admitted an attempted murder charge, along with sentence-enhancing allegations of using a firearm during a felony and committing a crime while on bail. In exchange for his admission, the District Attorney’s Office dropped seven related charges.
Keen certified the terms of the plea deal and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.
The defendant was on bond, awaiting adjudication of a felony case stemming from possession of an assault weapon, when the shooting occurred on March 8 last year in the 22400 block of Alessandro Boulevard, near Elsworth Street, in Riverside.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit filed by sheriff’s Deputy Jay Wilner, Lara Delmi was driving with four young relatives in her 2014 Toyota Corolla when she witnessed Drew clip another vehicle while driving in his 2005 Nissan Murano in the area of Alessandro Boulevard and Meridian Parkway.
The motorist hit by the defendant did not attempt to pursue him. However, Delmi began following Drew to get his license plate, trailing him as he headed eastbound into Moreno Valley, Wilner said.
When Drew turned into a parking lot at Alessandro and Old Interstate 215, Delmi drove in behind him, but then “became scared and drove away,” according to the deputy.
At that point, Drew sped after the woman, pulling in front of her Corolla and stopping near the intersection of Alessandro and Elsworth, where the victim immediately went around him, fearing for her safety.
“Drew got out of his vehicle (and) fired at least two rounds from his (.32-cailber) revolver,” shattering the windshield, according to the deputy.
Wilner said he was approaching the intersection at the time and witnessed the shooting happen from his patrol unit. He immediately ordered the defendant to surrender at gunpoint, and Drew complied.
None of the occupants of the Corolla were injured, but a spent .32-cailber bullet was found in the sedan.
According to court records, Drew has prior convictions for possession of controlled substances and possession of marijuana for sale.
